World notes - in progress

World Info: (still in development)
◈ Setting = like modern day Earth. All applicable technology, ways of life, cities, ect.
◈ Vampires, werewolves and other monsters exist. The public knows of their existence.
◈ Monsters with human characteristics are considered legal citizens in the United States.
◈ Vampirism is the only "disease" that is spread "intentionally". IE: most other monsters inherit their "monsterism" through their parentage.
◈ Vampires are "chipped" when located. The chips control their "predator" urges.
Chip Functions:
- controls the craving for human blood
- renders the specimen infertile
- provides GPS location
- due to the vampire population exploding when it was discovered in the 1940's, "chipping" is still in its infancy. Unchipped vampires are either destroyed when located or, if they acquiesce, are given chips and "set loose"
- more to come
◈ Chips are almost impossible to find. There is black market technology which can provide this function. Chips may be removed if located. Doing so will render the chip inactive and an Enforcer will be dispatched to terminate the vampire.
◈ Vampires are given prescriptions for plasma tablets or vials of synthetically manufactured blood to combat their anisocytosis (or need to ingest blood). Or they may, if necessary, "hunt" wild animals if they acquire a permit from the local Vampire Law Enforcement.
◈ Vampires are extremely hard to kill. Their skin is tough, they have extraordinary reflexes, celerity, and all the heightened senses of a top predator. They can take damage from high powered projectile weapons as long as the heart is kept intact; some can dodge bullets. Silver has little affect, sunlight or UV radiation will burn the subject and eventually destroy it if exposure is prolonged.
◈ Click here for further vampires-as-a-species information. NOTE: The "Reproduction" paragraph is accurate only in the sense that in order to make a vampire, blood must be shared. Propagation in this way is strictly forbidden and an automatic death sentence for any vampire which does so. The process (in a nutshell) involves draining a target of blood to the point of death, then taking several draughts of contaminated blood into a vein to spread the disease.
◈ Killing a monster that has citizenship is a crime and the murderer will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Only those individuals who have been sanctioned by law - bounty hunters are given permits per target - or are part of a unit that specializes in policing said species (Enforcers, for vampires specifically) have sanction to kill.
- In cases of attacks on humans (which are actually quite rare), if death occurs for either party, an investigation is opened and intent determined. IE: "I set that vampire on fire because I thought he might bite me." = the human will be charged with murder.
◈ Discrimination (for jobs, ect.) against an individual whom is "other than human" is illegal. Although social discrimination does exist, humanity being what it is.
◈ While all species are capable of mingling, there are some professions that prefer to cater to specific species. These businesses are protected by law and must acquire specific licenses to operate. School curriculum has been edited to include "species enlightenment programs" to ensure safety of both humans and "others".
◈ The Enforcers:
- considered "cops" of the monster races
- predominately vampires (although physiologically different from the "typical" species)
- specially trained to handle all sorts of problem creatures
- work as agents for BASTION
- located worldwide
- do not have the same types of chips that other vampires possess
- greatly feared/respected/hated by both humans and "other than human"
◈ BASTION:
- joint venture between human law enforcement and vampires to police "other than human" individuals worldwide
- consists of an independent leadership outside military or human government, but works in concert with either when needed
- exercises very selective recruitment
- headquarters location not advertised
◈ The world became aware of vampires around the 1940's. (Other monsters trickled out of hiding a few years later.) Speculation has questioned as to whether this pandemic was a bioweapon during WWII. All details regarding the species history has been classified.
